Crossing the 75th movie off my AFI 100 list. I watched The French Connection with D tonight. We were both distraught to learn that we were not into this movie at all. We both were even looking forward to it. It was filmed in 1971 (and I have been appreciating some of the more recent films more than the older ones). Gene Hackman starred in it. What could go wrong?
Well I guess lots of things. It was slow to start, and the actors were mumbling so it was hard to hear. The plot didn’t unfold enough to tell you what the heck was going on. It was randomness at best.
It had potential. It was about narcotics cops. There was a “french connection” and a car/train chase. Actually that scene (which is pretty famous) was good.
All in all, it was not my favorite. I hope my next film will be better: Duck Soup with the Marx Brothers.
