I met Kate through the Association of Women Journalists (AWJ) and immediately was impressed (and inspired) by her creativity, drive, work ethic and use of social media. Her passion for journalism, digital media and communications overall is evident in the projects she takes on, including LoganSquarist, an online news outlet that she founded that uses social media to socialize the neighborhood. Kate spoke at one of my journalism classes at Loyola University Chicago about how to use social media as a personal branding and professional tool. She urged the students to grab the proverbial bull by the horns and actively use Twitter, Facebook and other platforms for career development. Her insights and tips were extremely helpful to them as they prepare for opportunities in the workforce. She received kudos for her presentation and several follow-up queries after class was over. What I admire about Kate is her vitality as well as her desire to keep learning and growing personally and professionally. Kate is a modern-day renaissance woman who is multitalented (ask about her travel, knitting and marathon exploits!) and who brings instant value to any team or organization.
Kate is an outstanding managing editor who is continually challenging all of us to do better, to embrace change, and to stay on schedule. She takes the lead on any project she is given, including the World of Concrete show publications and the Concrete Construction websites and social media, sometimes ruffling a few feathers along the way in her pursuit of excellence. Kate has proven an invaluable asset in keeping the magazines on schedule and being not only completely open to doing things differently, but a true catalyst for change. Her work has improved our quality, expanded our reach and increased contact with our audience. I can’t speak highly enough of her smartness, reliability and dedication.
Kate has an incredible amount of drive when it comes to LoganSquarist. In the six months that I’ve been involved, I’ve watched the site grow from a pet project to a respected community publication. This success can be attributed to Kate’s technical and leadership skills. From building out the site to off-hours community management and a consistent flow of content, the site improves by leaps and bounds on a weekly basis. When it comes to team management, Kate delegates tasks in an organized and efficient manner, making her an all around great and inspiring person to work with.
Kate impressed me while she was still a student in college, and I had the good fortune to hire her immediately following her graduation. She is extremely detail-oriented, and is an outstanding writer and editor. Her fresh and innovative ideas were a welcome addition to the magazine while she was on my team. I would hire her again.
Kate is a wealth of knowledge who served as a tremendous mentor for all of our team members while constantly improving processes and workflows. I worked with Kate during my time as a community manager at Lightspan Digital while Kate was my direct manager. Kate’s communication practices really taught me how to navigate the sometimes complicated agency world. As an account manger, Kate smoothly orchestrated 10+ accounts at one time as well as help me manage and prioritize tasks in my role. Kate was a role model during my first few years in the professional world and continues to be so to this day.

I recently spent several intense months working with Kate on the migration of Concrete Construction magazine’s 50 years of article content into a new content management system, and the redesign and relaunch of the brand’s website. I have the highest regard for her sophisticated understanding of content and its expression on the web, attention to detail, excellent work ethic, and unflagging dedication to quality. As my supervisor while I was a summer editorial intern at Hanley Wood, Kate helped me become acclimated to the environment of a magazine publication very quickly. She was always available to answer questions, both about work and my future career. When assigning me tasks, she always outlined exactly what she expected from me. Kate has worked with a number of Dashfire's start ups (from conception to revenue generating) to train them in digital marketing basics. She takes a very hands on approach and leverages her deep industry knowledge to teach each of the entrepreneurs how to identify the most relevant social media platforms for their business, how to create and manage accounts on the different platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc) and how to identify strategic partnerships and best practices for approaching those partners. Her personable nature and broad knowledge of the industry makes her a perfect fit for teaching a variety of start ups (no matter what their stage or industry) the proper social media toolbox so that they can implement strategies on their own. I highly recommend Kate and look forward to working with her many times again in the future.
I had the pleasure of working with Kate at Lightspan Digital for just over a year. Kate's organizational skills and attention to detail made her very easy to work with as she was easily one of the best communicators in the office. As my manager, Kate gracefully gave me regular feedback, encouragement, and challenges that helped me further develop my marketing skills. One of the best things I've ever done in my career is work with Kate Hamilton. Her enthusiasm for all things editorial, not to mention her energy and passion for any project she's involved with, is contagious. In addition to being a natural born leader, she's also a creative type, a thinker, a stickler for details, and someone with incredible vision and the drive to get things done. I always marvel at how she is constantly teaching herself new things. She always seems to be ahead of the curve on anything related to social media, and she also has an eye for design. Kate did and excellent job with our website. We have received several compliments on how nice it looks and how easy it is to navigate.
